Testing of Brake Systems and Brake Components

The BOSMAL laboratory performs comprehensive testing of brake discs, brake drums, brake pads, brake shoes and linings, as well as complete brake systems, including tests in accordance with the requirements of UN Regulation No. 90 (UN R90 / ECE R90).

Testing is carried out in a specialized laboratory utilizing equipment such as the full-scale LINK Model M3000 brake dynamometer, which enables functional, performance, friction, wear, durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) testing of disc and drum brakes.

We conduct tests according to UN type-approval regulations, SAE, ISO, and JASO standards, OEM requirements, as well as customized test procedures and programs agreed upon with the client.

BOSMAL has over 50 years of experience in brake system testing, combining laboratory and bench testing with tests conducted on complete vehicles.

Testing of brake discs, brake drums, brake pads, and brake shoes according to UN Regulation No. 90

BOSMAL performs testing of brake discs for compliance with the requirements of UN Regulation No. 90 (UN Regulation No. 90 / UN R90 / ECE R90), which concerns replacement brake system components intended for power-driven vehicles and their trailers.

UN Regulation No. 90 covers, among others:

  • replacement brake discs;
  • replacement brake drums;
  • replacement brake lining assemblies;
  • replacement drum brake linings.

BOSMAL conducts testing of brake system components for type-approval purposes in accordance with UN Regulation No. 90, utilizing laboratory test benches, a brake dynamometer, and — where required by the applicable procedure — test vehicles.

Scope of testing according to UN Regulation No. 90

The detailed test program depends on the type of component under test, its application, the vehicle category, and the applicable requirements of UN Regulation No. 90.

Depending on the specific case, the scope of testing may include:

  • dynamometer bench testing, including: Thermal Fatigue, High Load, and Alternative Performance tests;
  • geometric and dimensional analysis;
  • chemical composition and material analysis;
  • mechanical properties;
  • tests conducted on a vehicle.

The test scope and methodology are determined on a case-by-case basis, tailored to the specific product and the required type-approval process.onkretnego produktu i wymaganego procesu homologacyjnego.
