New test bench for mechanical shock and inertial load testing

New test bench for mechanical shock and inertial load testing

BOSMAL is expanding its testing capabilities in the field of traction battery, energy storage system and electric vehicle component safety.

The new dynamic hydraulic test bench enables mechanical shock testing in accordance with Annex 9C, “Mechanical Shock”, to UN Regulation No. 100, as well as “Inertial Load at Vehicle Crash” testing in accordance with ISO 6469-1:2019, Clause 6.4.1.1.2.

The system is capable of testing components and assemblies with a total mass of up to 600 kg, including test instrumentation. It can reproduce acceleration pulses representative of loads occurring during a vehicle crash, enabling the assessment of structural integrity and the electrical safety of high-voltage systems.

Key technical parameters of the test bench:

Hydraulic actuator: maximum force of 400 kN, stroke of 800 mm and maximum velocity of 9 m/s.

Hydraulic accumulator system: storage of the energy required to generate dynamic pulses.

Test platform: table moving on linear bearings, with a working surface of 245 × 145 cm.

Air-cooled hydraulic power unit: operating pressure of 280 bar, tank capacity of 200 L and nominal flow rate of 40 L/min.

Hydraulic manifold: nominal operating pressure of 280 bar.

Control system: closed-loop control and dedicated software enabling the generation and iterative adjustment of test signals to match the required acceleration pulse profile.

Application in research and testing

The advanced hydraulic system and precise control enable the controlled reproduction of high-energy mechanical shock events. The test bench can be used to test traction batteries, REESS, high-voltage components and other vehicle components subjected to dynamic inertial loads.

This new investment strengthens BOSMAL’s capabilities in type-approval and development testing, as well as in the safety assessment of components used in electric and hybrid vehicles.
